The Key to Kayleigh was born one week ago! Which is no time at all, but I feel like I’ve been doing this for so much longer! So I thought I’d do a post about a few of the things I’ve that I’ve discovered about blogging in just one week. For such a short space of time, I’ve learnt A LOT! I’m hoping that for anyone reading this that’s about to write their first post or debating blogging, it will reassure them to just go for it! It’s scary at first but once you start learning and posting more, it’s much more exciting than scary!
This is also the first time I’ve edited my own photo for the feature image, hope you like it!
Bloggers are LOVELY 💕
The internet can be a frightening place, there are so many stories of cyber bullying, hacking, viruses etc. But the internet can also be a wonderful place! Connecting with people, research at your fingertips, an amazing advertisement tool for companies..the list goes on for both good and bad.
I was so worried that everyone in the blogging world would have loads of followers and not be interested in anything I would have to say 🙈. The exact opposite is true. You guys are fabulous! I’ve had so many lovely comments on the few posts I’ve submitted on my blog already! It really reassures a new blogger like me that people are interested and I’m really not doing that badly 🙊.
I’ve reached 100 followers and today I was nominated for my first award (thanks to Francesca 😘), all in one week! I could not have hoped for more 💕. I can’t wait to get to know more of the lovely people out there as well as get to know people I’ve already communicated with better!
Your social media accounts come into their own
I’ll focus on Twitter and Instagram, I’m still getting used to others 🙈😂.
I went to a friend who has a blog, the lovely Lisi 😘💕 when I was first thinking of starting a blog for some reassurance/advice. She was brilliant and super supportive. She also pointed out that Twitter is particularly important for getting your blog out there. Instant panic. I haven’t used Twitter in about 5 years! But after a couple of days, I completely understood what Lisi was saying! So I started an account and its been great for finding other blogs and getting my own seen! My advice is to try and be as confident as you can..it’s likely that people would love a response to their tweet, so go for it, give it a like or a comment! This goes for people’s blog posts too, communication seems to be key for blogging. What’s the worst that can happen? 😊 you can find me at keytokayleigh.
I love Instagram, have done for years! I’ve had my own account for a long time but I thought I should start an account for my blog so I don’t bombard my friends on there with blog stuff. Having an account for your blog is really interactive! I love seeing what other bloggers have been up to (which isn’t always generally blogged about). Some people take some beautiful photos, which I love seeing! There’s just something great about getting to know people through the pictures they post. You can find me at thekeytokayleigh.
It enables you to think about something else
For me, this is the most important thing I’ve discovered about blogging. Whether your life is full of one thing or lots of things, blogging is an escape. I’m in my last year of uni and this year it has felt like it has taken over my life. Obviously it’s important to invest A LOT of time into uni so you do well, but when it comes to the point that it’s all you are thinking about when you’re at home..You need something else. In stepped blogging! It’s great at taking my mind off other things in life by reading other people’s blogs, thinking up my own and writing them, it gives you something else to think about! Which to me, is very important.
There’s lots more I could talk about in this post but these are the most important things I’ve learnt over the last week that I think can hopefully reassure anyone thinking about starting a blog to give it a go! There’s so much more to learn and I can’t wait! 🎉
If you don’t try it, you’ll never know!
