Why everyone should start a blog..

The Key to Kayleigh was born one week ago! Which is no time at all, but I feel like I’ve been doing this for so much longer! So I thought I’d do a post about a few of the things I’ve that I’ve discovered about blogging in just one week. For such a short space of time, I’ve learnt A LOT! I’m hoping that for anyone reading this that’s about to write their first post or debating blogging, it will reassure them to just go for it! It’s scary at first but once you start learning and posting more, it’s much more exciting than scary!

This is also the first time I’ve edited my own photo for the feature image, hope you like it!

Bloggers are LOVELY πŸ’•

The internet can be a frightening place, there are so many stories of cyber bullying, hacking, viruses etc. But the internet can also be a wonderful place! Connecting with people, research at your fingertips, an amazing advertisement tool for companies..the list goes on for both good and bad.

I was so worried that everyone in the blogging world would have loads of followers and not be interested in anything I would have to say πŸ™ˆ. The exact opposite is true. You guys are fabulous! I’ve had so many lovely comments on the few posts I’ve submitted on my blog already! It really reassures a new blogger like me that people are interested and I’m really not doing that badly πŸ™Š.

I’ve reached 100 followers and today I was nominated for my first award (thanks to Francesca 😘), all in one week! I could not have hoped for more πŸ’•. I can’t wait to get to know more of the lovely people out there as well as get to know people I’ve already communicated with better!

Your social media accounts come into their own

I’ll focus on Twitter and Instagram, I’m still getting used to others πŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚.

I went to a friend who has a blog, the lovely Lisi πŸ˜˜πŸ’• when I was first thinking of starting a blog for some reassurance/advice. She was brilliant and super supportive. She also pointed out that Twitter is particularly important for getting your blog out there. Instant panic. I haven’t used Twitter in about 5 years! But after a couple of days, I completely understood what Lisi was saying! So I started an account and its been great for finding other blogs and getting my own seen! My advice is to try and be as confident as you can..it’s likely that people would love a response to their tweet, so go for it, give it a like or a comment! This goes for people’s blog posts too, communication seems to be key for blogging. What’s the worst that can happen? 😊 you can find me at keytokayleigh.

I love Instagram, have done for years! I’ve had my own account for a long time but I thought I should start an account for my blog so I don’t bombard my friends on there with blog stuff. Having an account for your blog is really interactive! I love seeing what other bloggers have been up to (which isn’t always generally blogged about). Some people take some beautiful photos, which I love seeing! There’s just something great about getting to know people through the pictures they post. You can find me at thekeytokayleigh.

It enables you to think about something else

For me, this is the most important thing I’ve discovered about blogging. Whether your life is full of one thing or lots of things, blogging is an escape. I’m in my last year of uni and this year it has felt like it has taken over my life. Obviously it’s important to invest A LOT of time into uni so you do well, but when it comes to the point that it’s all you are thinking about when you’re at home..You need something else. In stepped blogging! It’s great at taking my mind off other things in life by reading other people’s blogs, thinking up my own and writing them, it gives you something else to think about! Which to me, is very important.

There’s lots more I could talk about in this post but these are the most important things I’ve learnt over the last week that I think can hopefully reassure anyone thinking about starting a blog to give it a go! There’s so much more to learn and I can’t wait! πŸŽ‰

If you don’t try it, you’ll never know!

  2. WOW congratulations I can’t believe your blog is only a week old and already 100 followers! You’re doing amazing. Also I’ve been thinking about joining twitter, is your twitter for your blog or is it your personal too? x x

    1. Thank you so much lovely! 😊 Good plan! I was really wary of doing it but it’s well worth it. Well as I hadn’t used Twitter for sooo long, I made an account just for the blog because I don’t use one for personal use so I figured that was just the best way to do it 😊 xxx

      1. I think I’ll definitely make a Twitter, I’ve been so shy to do it though, I just need to do it the more I think about it, I’ll make sure to give you a follow x x

      2. I completely agree, I kept thinking about it and thought just do it! I just thought if I really don’t like the idea of it once I’ve made it I can delete it 😊 but it has been really good for finding other peoples blogs and advertising yours! I’m still getting used to the whole self promotion thing though, it does get a bit easier as you use it more though xxx

      3. I must agree I made an insta for my blog and I’m still not used to the whole self promotion thing πŸ˜‚ do you find insta useful? I love insta but there’s the whole follow unfollow game going on there x x

      4. Yeah I made a separate account for my blog on instagram because I didn’t want to annoy everyone on my personal one who isn’t necessarily interested in blogging! I’m finding it really good for getting to know people better which I really enjoy, it’s not necessarily that quick for gaining followers etc. But I’m not too bothered about that! I can’t say I’ve noticed the folow/unfollow thing but I know it goes on! I don’t tend to pay attention to whether people are unfollowing me though, so they might be, I’m probably being naive πŸ˜‚ it’s so sad that people feel the need to do it. I mean I must follow loads more blogs than follow me, but I don’t go and unfollow them because I enjoy seeing what they post, it doesn’t mean they have to follow me back! It’s silly. Xxx

      5. The only reason I realised it was that the day I made an insta for my blog I gained 200 followers and then they slowly went all the way back down, I was like what the heck?? But yeah I agree, I follow loads of people! But I wouldn’t go and unfollow them just to get myself followers, it’s just not fair! x x

    1. Ah thank you my lovely! I’ve been able to get my blog out there a lot recently though as I’m stuck at home under strict instructions from the Dr to rest due to whiplash and concussion! So I’m glad I’ve had the blog to take my mind off things!

      2. I was like that for the first week with the painkillers but I think my body has got used to them a little now so luckily the knocking out stage has passed..I’m just drowsy a lot of the time!
I had what I thought was a very small car accident but 4 days later I was in agony! All the damage landed on me, both cars were fine!
        I will go have a look! 😊
Thank you, you too! It’s no fun being stuck in all day every day! Xx
