My Mum..

My mum. My best friend. My queen.

I don’t even know where to start with this wonderful woman! No words will do her true justice, but I’m going to give it a go!

My parents split up when I was 5. I stayed with my Mum mostly, which I am so thankful for to this day. We didn’t have much, we were staying at a family friends for a while, but that didn’t stop me being happy! She worked her butt off and did everything she could to make the situation as good as it possibly could be. Then she met my Stepdad! He’s a top lad and is still here putting up with us 20 years later! We moved into a lovely new house in Milton Keynes and ever since we’ve been a happy bunch going through life together!

I cannot thank my mum enough for bringing us down here to live in Cornwall when I was 11. Life would have been so different growing up in Milton Keynes (she always says I wouldn’t have been staying out after dark when I was younger if we’d have stayed there!) As I was growing up, I hit the teenage stage and I know I wasn’t the politest kid to my mum. I look back and think how silly it is that some of us go through this stage, when our parents are just trying to look out for us and do what’s best. But hey, its not uncommon and I like to think we all grow up and snap out of it!

When I reached age 15 I got extremely poorly. This went on for a few years and it was quite honestly hell. No one could work out what was wrong and I quickly spiraled downwards. I wouldn’t leave my room, I was angry, sad and gutted that I was missing out on some of the best years of my life. But she was always there. Always fighting in my corner, taking me to the never ending hospital and doctors appointments, trying to find new ways to get to the bottom of the situation, supporting me no matter how upset or angry I got. I realised in this time how truly lucky I am to have her and made a promise to myself that I would cherish her and every moment we spent together from then on.

These days, my mum truly is my best friend. We go on days out/trips together, we live together, we support each other through thick and thin. She has had to come to my rescue FAR too many times but she always does. After a sudden break up, then when I needed to leave a horrible living situation I was in and needed to move back home, when I came back to Cornwall at 21 after leaving for a few years, the list is endless..but she was there. In everything I’ve ever wanted to do she has always been pushing me and encouraging me to reach my goals. This past month has been tough following a car accident, I’ve been out of action and have got pretty down about it at times. Who’s been there? You guessed it! She made me understand that I needed to take time to recover, which I’ve done and am slowly getting there.

Mum will ALWAYS put other people before herself. It’s one of the things I love most about her. She owns her own cleaning business and she knows a lot of elderly people through it. She takes time out of her day to visit them when they’ve been in hospital or have gone to live in a home. Sometimes these people have no family around and to them she is family. She does shopping for some of them if they need it, she has some of them ringing her at all hours of the day with problems but she doesn’t moan, she just reassures them and helps in anyway she can. She’s a hero.

The kindest soul you will ever meet.

I can never thank my Mum enough for everything she has done for me and continues to do even now I’m an adult (or meant to be!) We’re not the richest of people in the world and don’t have lots of fancy things, but my god we’re some of the luckiest and happiest!

Love you Mum! 💕

Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mum’s, Dad’s doing both, Grandparents, Step-parents, Godparents, Foster parents, Adoptive parents and anyone else in between who deserves tonnes of love today!

Also I know this can be a tough day for those who do not have their Mum here. Sending lots of love to anyone who needs it today.
